Ben Dunkel is a Product designer

Hi, I'm Ben!

I’m a product designer and teacher from Alexandria, VA with a passion for discovering user needs and creating innovative solutions. My approach is to leverage human-centered research to create the most intuitive and inspiring user experiences. I’m fascinated by all things design and am seeking new opportunities in PDX and remotely. For a .PDF copy of my resumé, please click here

I recently completed General Assembly’s User Experience Design Intensive. The program is a 12-week “bootcamp” that teaches the fundamental theories, techniques, and tools of UX design. The program is taught by top UX practitioners and is designed to provide students with real world experience through a variety of client facing projects.

In 2019, I led a redesign of the Dunkel Index, a family-owned sports handicapping company. The goal of the project was to overhaul the user experience, refresh the brand, and automate the extensive calculations that go on behind the scenes. I drove this project through wireframes and mock-ups, and coordinated the development of the website with our partners, Vegas Kings. In 2019 we launched  The Dunkel Index Podcast, a show that I edit and produce multiple times a week.

I also have my Oregon Educators License as a State Certified K-12 Teacher. Since then I have worked as a substitute teacher at schools across the Portland area. In this time I have heard positive feedback from students and staff, and have been asked to fill several long-term roles. I have also had the incredible opportunity of assisting with major events such as the Special Olympics and other extracurricular functions.

I have previously worked with brands such as Nike, adidas, Asics, and HP. In 2016 I graduated from SCAD with a Master’s degree in Industrial Design.
